Before You Make That Service Call: 6 Quick Steps

Written on: January 27, 2020

no-heat service call

We’re a month into winter 2020 here in southeastern PA, and so far it has been a relatively mild one. But as we’ve learned many times in the past, weather can change very quickly here in Pennsylvania – and when it does, your propane heating system will have to work overtime to keep up with the dropping temps.

That kind of overwork can often take a toll on your propane furnace or boiler, leaving you with a heating system that either underperforms or shuts down altogether. If the latter happens, don’t worry – Koppy’s Propane is here with expert propane equipment repair service that will get your heating system up and running quickly.

But before you contact us for propane service, it’s a good idea to do a little troubleshooting on your own – it could help you to avoid the hassle and expense of a house call.

If your propane gas furnace won’t start, please take these steps before you call:

  1. Make sure the temperature on your home thermostat is set at least five degrees above the current room temperature, and the system switch is on the HEAT or AUTO position. The fan switch should be set to ON for continuous airflow or AUTO.
  2. Check the power/disconnect switch; make sure it is set for on.
  3. Check the pilot light (note: a furnace with electronic ignition will not have a pilot light).
  4. Check the air filter if airflow from your vent seems low.
  5. Make sure all vents are open and not blocked.
  6. Make sure the gas control valve to the furnace is open.

If you take all of the above steps and your heat still doesn’t work, contact Koppy’s Propane right away and we will send a technician to figure out the problem – and to make it right as quickly as possible.

For fast propane heating repairs done right, trust the pros at Koppy’s Propane. Contact us today for expert heating service and routine propane maintenance, plus reliable propane deliveries in eastern PA!
